Non-Coffee drinkers die sooner according to 10 year study

If you are one of the 80% of Brits drinking 95 million cups of Coffee per day then there is good news!

By examining the Medical data of 498,134 British people who had registered with Biobank Genetics Database, Scientists discovered a significant trend showing that the more Coffee people drank, the longer they lived. Over the 10 year sample period, more non-coffee drinkers died. The researchers concluded:

This study provides further evidence that coffee drinking can be part of a healthy diet and offers reassurance to coffee drinkers

Even better news is that this trend continued up to 8 cups of Coffee a day so provided you cap your consumption you are statistically up to 15% less likely to die than non-Coffee drinkers. Obviously, other factors must be taken into account whenever extrapolating this type of data to determine whether a lifestyle choice will affect how long you live (for instance, wealth, education etc) but choices like Smoking and body weight were taken into account to make sure that they didn’t factor in the results. Interestingly, the choice or Caffeinated or Decaffeinated Coffee doesn’t make a difference and nor does the way that you serve the Coffee – from Espresso to Latte. Despite the fact that there are some obvious drawbacks in this type of study, it does still seem to indicate that Coffee does indeed improve your health in some way. Source: Jama Network
